Deer Turns to Dust Before My Eyes: Epic Decomposition Time-lapse!


So a deer was hit in front of my house and the carcass landed in my yard. Because I didn’t know what to do with it, I thought mounting a camera overhead might be the best option. I was right. Holy Smokes was this awesome! I thought it’d take a month or more to decompose. I was wrong. As you’ll see, the whole process of decomposition only took a few days. I kept the entire timelapse quite long in the middle for you to see it!

Keynote: Securing Internet Applications from Routing Attacks


Attacks on Internet routing are typically viewed through the lens of availability and confidentiality, assuming an adversary that either discards traffic or performs eavesdropping. Yet, a strategic adversary can use routing attacks to compromise the security of critical Internet applications likeTor, certificate authorities, and the bitcoin network. In this paper, we survey such applicationspecific routing attacks and argue that both applicationlayer and networklayer defenses are essential and urgently needed. While applicationlayer defenses are easier to deploy in the short term, we hope that our work serves to provide much needed momentum for the deployment of networklayer defenses.
Speaker: Jennifer Rexford
Jennifer Rexford is the Gordon Y.S. Wu Professor of Engineering and the Chair of Computer Science at Princeton University. Before joining Princeton in 2005, she worked for eight years at AT\u0026T Labs where she designed tools for network measurement, traffic engineering, and router configuration that were deployed in AT\u0026T’s backbone network. Jennifer received her BSE degree in electrical engineering from Princeton University in 1991, and her PhD degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of Michigan in 1996. She received the ACM SIGCOMM Award and the IEEE Internet Award, and she is an ACM Fellow, an IEEE Fellow, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences.

Maritime Transportation System Cyber Attacks and Mitigation Strategies (3rd of 3 videos)


In this final video in the series on maritime cybersecurity, we review the maritime transportation system (MTS) as a systems of systems; discuss its reliance on information communication technologies; and describe theoretical and actual cyber attacks, in particular, attacks on the Automatic Identification System and Global Navigation Satellite System (e.g., spoofing attacks). Dr. Gary Kessler provides a simulated spoofing attack on AIS, and finally, we provide a broad overview of mitigation strategies for cyber attacks on the maritime transportation system.
This video series is one of several series providing an overview of applications of cybersecurity normally not discussed in information technology or cybersecurity courses (e.g., maritime, aviation, supply chain, etc.). These videos help broaden students’ understanding of how cybersecurity affects various domains.
The intended audiences for the video series include high school, community college, and lowerlevel university students who are interested in, or participating in, cybersecurity, information technology, or associated programs.
This video includes more technical terms and information than the first video, and it is appropriate for students in a cybersecurity or information technology course.
